The NASA Langley Airborne High Spectral Resolution Lidar (HSRL) was deployed on the NASA King Air B200 for the ARCTAS mission in 2008. The HSRL measurements acquired during this mission were used to characterize the vertical and horizontal distribution of aerosols and aerosol optical properties, infer aerosol type, and partitioning aerosol optical depth by type. The focus of the spring (April) deployment was measurements of Arctic haze and the summer (June-July) deployment focused on smoke from boreal fires. This mission also supported on-going CALIPSO satellite retrieval measurements of aerosol and cloud spatial distribution and optical properties. The B200 was deployed in Barrow, Alaska for the spring campaign and in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories, Canada for the summer deployment. During the spring campaign, the HSRL measurements were used to support the DOE Indirect and Semi-Direct Aerosol Campaign (ISDAC) and the NOAA Aerosol, Radiation, and Cloud Processes affecting Arctic Climate (ARCPAC) missions.Related Publications
